Here is a list of the requirements: Texas DPS Checklist for Pre-Employment Security Officers
Personal and private security officers can experience a wide variety of challenging situations that involve the public. Any one of these situations can lead to negative outcomes or harm. Pre-employment requirements like psychological testing can help DPS determine whether or not you're appropriate to be in this line of work.
Firstly, a Fitness for Duty Exam (FFDE) must be completed by a licensed psychologist. The goal of an FFDE is to determine if you are capable of serving asa security officer safely. The exam includes information about your background, your mental health history, reasoning and problem-solving skills, and personality traits.
The exam process is done in person. If you are in the Dallas area, DimensionsPsychology is located conveniently in North Dallas off of 3 major freeways, and you can schedule an appointment by clicking here.
The exam can take between an hour to two hours and will include:
You will be asked questions about your background and lifestyle. This can include questions about your:
You will be asked to fill out a test called the MMPI-3. It will include questions about your personality, preferences, and behavior. This test is scored by the psychologist and the results will be included in your final report.
We will analyze your results and incorporate them into our analysis of your fitness for duty as a security officer. Our team at Dimensions Psychology completes this report and can have it sent to you or DPS within 5 business days.
If you are applying for a position as a Commission or Personal Protection Officer, we will fill out this form: DPS Declaration of Psychological Health
The MMPI-3 is a personality test that psychologists use to assess how you manage stress and how your beliefs or thoughts impact your behavior. The test asks self-descriptive questions that require you to answer whether they are true or false. It's important to answer all of them to give the psychologist a complete picture.
The psychologist you've worked with will review everything you've reported and your test results. They'll use their experience and professional judgement to cometo a decision about your fitness for duty. These results are different from other private medical or mental health information and are not held as confidential. They are shared securely with DPS via certified mail or secure email.
